Angella Louise Silva hasn't added a story.
On December 9, 2011 (Devens 14th birthday) I received a call from the Doctor regarding the findings of Devens recent tonsillectomy. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 2B. We immediately began a series of 4 treatments of Chemotherapy, as well as 3 weeks of radiation. Deven was said to be in remission at the beginning of May. Approximately 3 weeks later, I felt an enlarged lymph node on Devens neck, and after a battery of tests, it is now said that Deven has relapsed. On June 11th, a new PICC line was placed, and we began chemotherapy again.
Deven was to have 3 rounds of more intense chemotherapy, as well as a stem cell harvest and transplant. We expected to be in treatment for the next 5 to 8 months. 3 rounds has turned in to 11 (starting 12 tomorrow) and we are nowhere near the end of our journey. It was decided a while back that Deven will need an allo (donor) transplant instead of an auto (his own) because they didn't think his own cells would fight the remaining cancer. They have found a "PERFECT" match for Deven, but in order to go to transplant, he needs to be responding to chemo. We are on our 6th different type of chemo and are hoping this one will work wonders.
More recently Deven was admitted for a cough and fevers. We have now been inpatient for 19 days, yet there is still no diagnosis as to what is going on. Devens lungs are showing new spots and his spleen is very enlarged and glowing on his PET scan. The doctors believe that Deven may have a fungal infection. This could be a reason for him to be denied once he is ready for transplant, so we definitely don't want that. Also, we just found out that Devens Ebstein Barr Virus is once again active and we have no idea how that is affecting anything.
Right now, we need all the prayers and positive vibes we can get. As you can see, Deven has taken a lot of abuse. It is finally his time to shine and get his miracle! Thank you so much for Liking our page and sharing your positive words and prayers with our boy. I have faith that Deven will overcome, like he always has. ♥
The constant travel back and forth as well as all the hospital stays have created a significant hardship on our family, financially. We appreciate any help we can get.
Many people have asked what they can do to make Deven smile. He spends a lot of time sitting/laying. He enjoys video games and building things like Legos. We spend a lot of time in Kaiser, Oakland, so we can always use gift cards for restaurants and/or gas.
